Black Heritage Gallery

A project of the Black Heritage Festival dedicated to the presentation of African-American culture and history. The gallery displays year-round exhibits and educational activities representing the contributions of African Americans to Southwest Louisiana.

EXHIBITION SPACE AVAILABLE

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are currently seeking applications for inclusion in a community gallery. The Black Heritage Gallery seeks arts & humanities exhibitions, with a concentration in promoting African American and southern influenced artist, writers, and any visual media. The Black Heritage Gallery is located in the historic Central School Arts and Humanities Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

GUIDELINES

Gallery space is free of charge for monthly/bi monthly exhibitions. Private use of the gallery requires a $200 donation, made payable to the Black Heritage Gallery.
Black Heritage Gallery is open to the public. Admission, FREE. Gallery Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Private showings available after hours upon request.
Installation of work will be done by gallery curators, with taking into consideration the individual/organizations recommendations/artistic vision. The BHG curators reserve the right to install, move, and delete any work(s) they feel is not suitable for exhibition. Breakdown and removal of work/exhibition is the responsibility of artist/organization.
All work should be mounted and framed in a manner that is suitable for hanging.
A select group of representatives from Black Heritage Gallery, Black Heritage Festival, McNeese State University Visual Arts Department, Arts and Humanities Council and the City of Lake Charles will take into consideration any submission from art organizations, individual artists and humanists free of charge.
Exhibitions should be appropriate to the size of the Black Heritage Gallery. The gallery is 30x24 feet; 720 square feet; 60 running feet of wall space. Free standing walls are also available, in addition to pedestals. Individual or organization must provide price list for publication within the gallery during exhibition.
Individual or organization is responsible for insuring work on display. If individual or organization chooses not to insure, then the signing of this document releases Black Heritage Gallery, Black Heritage Festival of Louisiana, The Arts and Humanities Council, and the City of Lake Charles from any liability for lost, stolen or damaged items.
Opening/closing receptions are the responsibility of individual or organization, unless agreed upon otherwise. (Black Heritage Gallery can recommend a list of preferred reception planners, upon request.) A mail out of 150 complementary post cards announcing exhibition will be provided by Black Heritage Gallery and supporting members. Additional exhibition post cards must be ordered from the Black Heritage Gallery. Other designs must be approved by gallery curators.
To submit work for consideration: send slides, photographs, or digital media (.jpg), showing EXACT samples of work to be displayed in the gallery (a minimum of ten examples is preferred), a resume and/or biography, and a signed copy of this document, which binds the individual or organization to the stipulations set forth within, to:
