BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Are you interested in volunteering with the Black Heritage Festival?

There will be a brief meeting on Thursday, February 18 at 5:30PM at Central School (Room 108) located at 809 Kirby Street to discuss your duties. All interested persons must be prepared to attend this meeting. Please note: All tasks performed for a BHF events shall be strictly voluntary and you will not receive payment for your service.

If you are interested in volunteering, please register on our website at www.bhflc.org under the "Volunteers" tab or email Nicole Moncrief, BHF Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@bhflc.org for more information.

Volunteer Committee Descriptions

BLACK HERITAGE GALLERY
Assist the Curators with exhibits and opening receptions.

CHILDREN'S AREA
Facilitate children's activities (games, crafts and performances) by assisting and encouraging participation.

Distribution
This committee is charged with spreading the word about the Festival by distributing posters, flyers, and yard signs prior to the festival.

FESTIVAL BOOTH
Sell t-shirts, cookbooks, cups, raffle tickets.

FESTIVAL PHOTOGRAPHERS
Festival photographers will be expected to photograph targets identified by the coordinator. Targets include groups on stage, individuals in audience. Close ups and distant shots are needed for brochures. Must use DIGITAL CAMERA and turn over CD to the Director.

GRANT WRITING
Help secure funds by identifying and writing grants

Greeters
Be friendly, cordial, smile a lot and give directions as needed.

HOSPITALITY
Staff the Hospitality Room where food and beverages are provided for performers, volunteers and staff.

INFORMATION BOOTH
Provide information to the general public, including performance times, restroom locations, directions (Complaint department and message center lost & found).

PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
Assist our partner school in agreed upon activities.

PAGEANT
Assist the pageant directors during the pageant, and with pre, and post activities.

Scholarship
Dispense scholarship information to schools and students. Review applications and identify recipients according to guidelines. Conduct a scholarship workshop annually in September.

SECURITY
Security volunteers like people, are calm and want to help. Security direct people and controls the flow at non-paying entrances like back stage and where the vendors come in and out.

SET-UP/TAKE DOWN CREW
Volunteers will set up and/or take down Site signs, Tent, signs, Banners)

STAGE HANDS
Help as needed on the Main Stage

TICKET TAKING/WRISTBANDS
Teams will work together at the Festival entrance to take people's tickets, put wristbands on them, and check for existing wristbands on people re-entering.
